BPI Summer Residency
The Bard Prison Initiative (BPI) is the inspiration for Learning in Prison. In Summer 2022, our director was thrilled to be invited to attend BPI’s 2-week summer residency, a series of immersive workshops on Bard’s Annandale campus in the Hudson Valley, led by BPI educators and alumni. This was an amazing experience for gaining hands-on training in program development and for learning from formerly incarcerated alumni and global practitioners about best practice for prison-based higher education.
Massive thanks to Jessica Neptune, Delia Mellis, and Max Kenner for their time, skill, and passion for this cause.
Our Thanks to CUSAM UNSAM
"ABRIR LA CÁRCEL" was the 1st International Meeting on University Education in the Context of Incarceration, organized by CUSAM (San Martin University Center). More than 25 universities from Latin America, Europe, the United States, and Africa, with the support and participation of the National University Network for Education in the Context of Incarceration (Red UNECE), gathered in San Martin, Argentina from April 26 to 28, 2023.
Our director attended ABRIR LA CÁRCEL this May. Over three days, the programs exchanged experiences and perspectives on education in the context of incarceration: how the university can transform the prison, but also how the prison can transform the university.
